Telephone calls have been made claiming to be from 'Brian Rayden' of 'Rayden Family Law Solicitors'.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been advised that telephone calls have been made to a company claiming to be from ‘Brian Rayden’ a director at 'Rayden Family Law Solicitors'.

The calls were in relation to 'Brian Rayden' and 'Rayden Family Law Solicitors' and concerned commencing proceedings against the company on behalf of a client.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Rayden Family Law Solicitors' and does not authorise or regulate a solicitor called 'Brian Rayden'.

Any business or transaction through 'Brian Rayden' or 'Rayden Family Law Solicitors' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Raydens Limited, which also trades as Rayden Solicitors. The firm's website is www.raydensolicitors.co.uk and their contact number is 01727 734 260. The firm's contact email address is enquiries@raydensolicitors.co.uk.

The genuine firm Raydens Limited has confirmed that it does not employ any individual by the name of 'Brian Rayden'.

The genuine firm of solicitors has also confirmed that it does not have any genuine connection to the individual or telephone calls described in the alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
