A profile has been set up on the LinkedIn website misusing the name of a genuine firm and purporting to offer legal services.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed of a profile for 'Awais Mahar', with the title 'Chief Executive Officer' on the LinkedIn website. It is falsely claimed in the profile that 'Awais Mahar' works for Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer LLP.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate any individual named 'Awais Mahar'.

Any business or transaction through the profile 'Awais Mahar' on the LinkedIn website is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors named Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer LLP (SRA ID 419682).

Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer LLP has confirmed it has no connection to the profile referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?
