Warning: Website operating and claiming to be a law firm and email sent to a member of the public purporting to be from a genuine solicitor

5 March 2026

The website 'www.mwiltonsolicitors.co.uk/index.html' is operating and falsely claiming to be a law firm and an email has been sent to a member of the public purporting to be from a genuine solicitor

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a website is operating and claiming to be a law firm. The website address is 'www.mwiltonsolicitors.co.uk/index.html'

The bogus website provides the telephone numbers '+44 121 790 1228' and '+44 121 790 0838'. It also provides the address '20 Cornwall Street, Birmingham, West Midlands B3 2DT, United Kingdom'.

The website 'www.mwiltonsolicitors.co.uk/index.html' further provides the names of several individuals who are claimed to be 'attorneys'. The individuals listed on the website as 'attorneys' are:

  • David Singh LLM
  • Michael Wilton LLB (Hons)
  • James Henderson
  • Sarah Bennett LLB

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Michael Wilton Solicitors United Kingdom', or an individual called 'Michael Wilton, Esq.'

The SRA has also seen an email sent to a member of the public from an individual claiming to be a solicitor by the name of 'Michael Wilton, Esq.' which uses the email address 'michael@mwsolicitor-uk.co.uk'. The email is in relation to an inheritance matter and claims that because the member of public shares the surname with their bogus 'client', they could inherit the person's money. The email then asks the member of public to confirm their interest so further documentation can be sent to them.

Any business or transactions through the website, telephone numbers, email address or address described above is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA previously authorised and regulated a genuine solicitor called David Singh (SRA number 26212) who is no longer practising. Mr Singh has confirmed that he has no connection to the details referred to in the above alert.

The SRA authorises and regulates a number of solicitors called James Henderson who have confirmed that they have no connection to the details referred to in the above alert.

The SRA also authorises and regulates a number of solicitors called Sarah Bennett who are not believed to have any connection to the details referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
